AQUAE Labs Ecosystems Conservation Index (ALCI) : Landscape valuation and tokenized ecosystem services

AQUAE Labs has reached an important milestone in the development and marketability of ALCI ecological accounting architecture with the filing of a foundational patent application covering a portfolio of inventive concepts within its ecological accounting architecture. The significance of this development goes beyond intellectual-property protection as the embodiment of the ALCI product patent forms the foundations of a unit backed ecological measurement index to value ecosystem-services as a standardized market accessible product. It’s not simply a database of environmental information. It is a framework in which the commercialisation of biological production is accompanied by responsibility for maintaining the ecological systems which make that production possible. At a visionary level, ALCI is intended to provide the structured connection between a given land areas measured baseline ecological state and ecosystem services backed market representation

A defining element of the ALCI approach is the early recognition that ecosystems generate multiple measurable services with economic significance and that these services can be systematically valued rather than treated as invisible externalities. The seminal ecosystem services valuation framework proposed by Robert Costanza et al established a methodology for translating ecological measurements into economic values across a range of ecosystem services which ALCI has integrated as a basket of contracted ecosystem services.

Using the framework of valuation proposed by the economists, ALCIs ecological asset is represented as tokenized ‘fractions’ guaranteed to protect and fund a full portfolio of insured ecosystem-service values each derived from defined MRV parameters and connected to the underlying landscape being conserved. The ALCI approach uses field-based Monitoring, Recording and Verification modules (MRV) to quantify the functional ecological condition and performance of a defined habitat, including its vegetation structure, soil characteristics, biodiversity and asses DATA for specific indicators of ecological maturity.

From MRV to Market

ALCI platform provides a baseline for setting traceability, controlled issuance and transparency of ecosystem services validated for privately contracted landscapes. Under an ALCI contract, a defined landscape becomes subject to an agreed landscape conservation management and MRV framework. Its ecological condition and performance are measured, recorded and periodically revalued. The resulting data establishes a traceable ecological record, a baseline against the ecosystem services and associated market values that can be recognized within the ALCI context. It shifts the conceptual model from extracting natural capital to cultivating, maintaining, measuring and economically representing privately contracted ecosystem services generated by managed, living, climate resilient environments.

The ground level MRV approach begins with the physical ecosystem and its defined habitat area. MRV establishes primary real time ecological data. Validation provides independent assurance that the resulting ecosystem-service values can be represented through fractional ecological units linked back to the underlying land and its verified performance.

The 2026 Belipola assessment demonstrates how this works in practice. Across the site’s 7.1 hectares and three seral zones, ALCI measured and valued multiple ecosystem-service categories, producing a total ecosystem-service market value of USD 23 million in the first-year MRV assessment.

The ALCI Journey Continues

Because the backing value of ecosystem services have been ignored by agricultural economists to date, developing the capacity of land to increase its output of ecosystem services must become a critical economic goal. Markets for ALCI will power restoration action and  help us face the reality of a 111°F future where photosynthesis itself could be compromised.

The financial prospect ALCI offers will be the means to design future agroecosystems that use the heat reducing mechanisms of biomass and ecosystem services. A single mature tree within the ALCI portfolio provides a powerful cooling effect equal to 20 to 30 kilowatts of power.  Hedgerows and shrubs  contribute up to 4-6 degrees of cooling to farmlands depending on the volume of photosynthetic biomass.

ALCI has the potential to transform ecosystem services from largely unpriced environmental benefits into a structured field of measurable, verifiable and investable financial product backed by the conservation of Biomass and Biodiversity. The patent pending ALCI accounting system therefore forms part of a larger journey to self finance and re-design  agricultural landscapes of the future.

What's Next: USD 4 Million insured ALCI credits enter the Market

A new chapter is beginning for the AQUAE Labs Ecosystems Conservation Index (ALCI).

USD 4 million worth of ALCI ecosystems credits are available in pre-sale.

Backed by insurance through our insurance partners, these credits represent an important step toward a more mature and credible nature finance market. This is more than the launch of a new credit offering—it reflects a shift toward treating restored ecosystems as investable, risk-managed assets supported by measurable environmental performance.

Pre-sale of
Fractionalized ALCI Credits
is now live:

We invite governments, businesses and individuals to invest in guaranteeing biospheric integrity while leveraging financial mechanisms to realize new wealth backed by ecosystem services and improve prosperity across societies and cultures.
